Add Border Around Text or Paragraph in LibreOffice Writer

In this tutorial, you will learn how to add borders around selected text or paragraphs in LibreOffice. See the example screenshot below of a paragraph with and without a border.

When you need to highlight a specific section of a document, you can add a border around it, as borders are a great way to draw attention to a specific text or paragraphs, especially if you want to emphasize them in your document.

Borders can be added both toa specific text or an entire paragraph.

Adding Border Around a Paragraph

Step 1: First, select and highlight the paragraph that you want to add a border to. Right-click on the selection, and then choose Paragraph > Paragraph… from the context menu. This will open the paragraph properties dialog window.

Step 2: In the paragraph properties dialog window, navigate to the Borders tab. Here, you’ll see various options to add borders to the top, bottom, left, and right sides of the paragraph. You can select any of these options to add a border to your paragraph.

Step 3: You can further customize the style of the border by selecting various options provided in the Lines section, such as line style, color, width, etc. You can preview your changes in the preview section. And when you’re satisfied with your settings, click the OK button to apply the border to your paragraph.

Adding Border Around Specific Text

Step 1: First, select and highlight the word or text that you want to add a border to. Right-click on the selection, and then choose Character > Character… from the context menu. This will open the character properties dialog window.

Step 2: In the character properties dialog window, navigate to the Borders tab. Here, you’ll see options to add borders to the text. You can select any of these options to add a border to your selected text.

Step 3: You can further customize the style of the border by selecting various options in the Lines section, such as line style, color, width, etc. Once you’re satisfied with your settings, click the OK button to apply the border to your text.

Removing Border From Text or Paragraphs

Step 1: Place your cursor inside the word or paragraph where the border has been added. Right-click on the selection, and then choose Paragraph > Paragraph… or Character > Character… (in case of the border being added only to a specific text).

Step 2: In the properties dialog window, navigate to the Borders tab. And under the Line section’s style drop-down option, select None to remove the border from your text or paragraph.
